During the festival stands will be set up in its streets, dedicated to the town’s typical fruit and to its by-products: “limoncino” (lemon liqueur), lemon cream, lemon marmalade and lemon cake. The event takes place on a day dedicated to this citrus fruit, which is widespread in the Cinque Terre.
Thanks to this fruit and its festival, Monterosso is well known all over the world!
On that occasion along the narrow streets of the village there are all types of stalls where the typical fruit of this village reigns with its derivatives: limoncello, lemon cream, jam and lemon cake.
In the afternoon, the so-called “8,000 lemon-scented steps” walk takes place. It starts from the house of the poet Eugenio Montale and flows through the streets of Monterosso, touching the most typical places. The itinerary, rich in food stalls also includes a visit to a lemon house.
The day ends in the main square of the village where takes place the assignment of awards for the most beautiful showcase and the “biggest lemon” at the gourmet table in Piazza Garibaldi.
A wonderful territory, shaped by the work of man over the centuries, home to a National Park, with a crystalline sea that hosts a prestigious Protected Marine Reserve... countries of culture and ancient crafts, of intense Mediterranean scents, of the yellow of the lemons, of sensual wines that transport the harshness of the territory to the palate and the sweetness of the nectar. The Cinque Terre are a monument that will remain engraved in the heart of those who visit and stay there... an ideal place for a holiday dedicated to nature.
The old town of Monterosso is dominated by the ruins of the castle and characterized by typical narrow medieval streets, carruggi, with multi-coloured terraced houses.
The beach is the only extensive sand beach in the Cinque Terre and runs along most of the coast line and is well used by tourists and locals.
